ఇదో తెల్ల ఏనుగు మాత్రం కాదు, కాని కొంచెం కుంటుపడిందంతే.
విషయానికొస్తే - సూర్య సూక్ష్మ వ్యవస్థ అనగా సన్ మైక్రోసిస్టంస్ అమ్మకానికొచ్చింది. మీలో ఎవ్వరైనా ఆసక్తి ఉన్నవారు కొనుక్కోవచ్చు.
నా దృష్టిలో దీన్ని వీళ్లు కొనగలరు.

వీటిల్లో ఐ.బి.యం కొనబోతోందని పుకార్లు కూడ వినిపిస్తున్నాయ్. అయితే ఇక్కడ కొన్ని సాంకేతిక మైన సమస్యలు ఉన్నాయి. చంద్ర బాబు, రాజశేఖరు ఇద్దరు రెండువర్టికల్స్. ఇద్దరు ఒకటైతే ఎలా ఉంటుంది? ఫండమెంటల్ సమస్యలు ఎదురౌతాయ్.
ఎలా?
సన్ వాళ్ల అత్యతం ప్రాచుర్యం పొందిన టెక్నాలజీ - స్పార్క్ సిస్టంస్, మరియూ సొలారిస్ అనే ఓయస్.
ఐ.బి.యం వారి అత్యతం ప్రాచుర్యం పొందిన టెక్నాలజీ - పవర్ సిస్టంస్ మరియూ ఎ.ఐ.యక్స్ అనే ఓయస్.
సొలారిస్ అనేది ఎ కంప్లీట్ యునిక్స్. ఇది యస్.వి.ఆర్ ఫోర్ ఆధారిత ఓయస్.
ఎ.ఐ.యక్స్ అనేది కూడా కంప్లీట్ యునిక్స్. ఇది యస్.వి.ఆర్ త్రి ఆధారిత ఓయస్.
ఈ రెండు నువ్వా నేనా అన్నట్టు ఉంటాయ్ మార్కెట్లో. నాకు తెలిసి, సొలారిస్ మార్కెట్లో లీడింగ్ సర్వర్ బ్రాండ్. అలానే సొలారిస్ ఎ.ఐ.యక్స్ కన్నా అడ్వాన్స్డ్. కాబట్టి ఐ.బి.యం సున్ ని కొంటే మార్కెట్లో ఆల్రెడీ సన్ ని వాడుతున్నవాళ్ల ఆలోచనా ధోరణి మారిపోతుందేమో. ఐ.బి.యం వారు సన్ ని కనక కొంటే ఔను సొలారిస్ ఎ.ఐ.యక్స్ కన్నా అద్భుతమైనది అని చెప్పాల్సి రావొచ్చు. అలా చెప్పగలరంటారా?
ఇక యాపిల్ వారు - వీరు ఐఫోన్ వచ్చాక అస్సలు సర్వర్ టెక్నాలజీస్ని మూసేస్కుంటున్నారు అని వినికిడి. కాబట్టి వీరు కొనరు.
హెచ్.పి - వీళ్లు ప్రొప్రైటరీ సర్వర్స్ ఉన్నాయి. వాటిని ప్రోలియంట్ సర్వర్స్ అంటారు. వీరి ఓయస్ హెచ్.పి-యుయక్స్. కానీ ఇదో చెత్త యునిక్స్. ఇది స్కొ యునిక్స్ కి ఎక్స్టెంషన్ గా ఉంటుంది. అయినా వీరి ముఖ్య మార్కెట్టు కంజ్యూమర్ రేంజ్. కాబట్టి వీరూ కొనరు.
సిస్కో - సిస్కో కనుక సన్ ని కొంటే అదో పెద్ద అస్సెట్ అవుతుంది సిస్కోకి. వాళ్లిప్పటిదాకా ఇన్ హ్యాండ్స్ విత్ హార్డ్వేర్ ఉన్నారు కాని వారి సొంత సర్వర్ టెక్నాలజి లేదు. మరియూ ఐ.బి.యం మొనొపొలి కాకుండా ఆపినవారైతారు.
ఇక మిగిలింది - ఒరాకిల్. వీరికి ప్రత్యేమకైన ఓయస్ లేదు, సర్వర్ టెక్నాలజీ లేదు. ఎన్నో సార్లు ప్రయోగాలు చేసి చేతులు కళ్ళు కాల్చుకున్నారు కూడా. వీరు కనక సన్ ని కొంటే ఓ నిండుతనం వస్తుంది అని నా అభిప్రాయం. ఐతే, కొందరు ఇలా అయితే అది సన్ కి లాభం కాని ఒరాకిల్ కి ఏమి లాభం లేకపోగా, వాళ్లకి డిబి2 లాంటి ముద్ర పడుతుంది అని.
మీకు తెలుసుగా డిబి2 అనేది అత్యంత మెరుగైన డేటాబేస్ సిస్టం అని. ఐతే దానిమీద ముద్ర - వెన్ యూజ్డ్ ఆన్ ఎ.ఐ.యక్స్ లేక మెయిన్ఫ్రేమ్స్ మాత్రమే. మరియూ దీని లైసెన్సు చాలా ఖరీదు కూడా..
చూద్దాం ఏంజరగబోతోందో..

ReplyDeleteIf oracle purchases sun what happens to the Mysql DB(presently Mysql is maintained by SUN).
ReplyDeleteOracle is selling and supporting re branded Redhat enterprise Linux.
As per info from industry peers, SAP is moving towards DB2. In future they may not support oracle DB.
Cisco has great advantage. They can enter into server and storage markets with this opportunity if they capitalize it.

Sun Microsystems is not a leading brand in the highend server market and they are good at entry level servers which can be easily replaced by Linux servers.
SPARC is not at all a competent processor compared to Power 5/6 or PA-RISC or Itanium.
In contrary to what said about HP's Proliant servers, they are called Industry Standard Servers, not proprietary.
FWIW, HP's HP-UX competes with AIX neck to neck not Sun's solaris.

How could you say this? Sun Servers are top notch servers, provide high end processing. I cannot agree with your statement.

SPARC is neck to neck with these.

They are also industry standard servers along with other servers. But, they are NOT THE industry standard servers.
Proprietary = Made by HP.
"Industry Standard" has lot of meanings. One can assemble an industry standard server on his/her own too.

#3 Linux
#4 HP-UX and others.
This is not only according to sales, but also according to OS vs OS.
